It frustrates me when I see stories in the media about families who are struggling to pay for their prescription drugs. These stories perpetuate the myth that there is no help for people who struggle to pay for their prescriptions. And the U.S. Congress does a disservice to seniors by saying that they passed prescription drug legislation that will solve their prescription drug problem.
The fact is there are already programs available that offer free prescription drugs to people making $40,000 a year or more, but they are not advertised. These programs are much better than what Congress is offering for services. And these current programs are for people of any age. Here is where to go to find available prescription drug programs:
- Pharmaceutical Companies
Free Prescription Drugs. There is a Patient Assistance Program run by the pharmaceutical companies that offer free drugs. Some companies have income requirements and some do not. If you are taking drugs, check out the program at

- State Departments of Health

Remember you have 2 U.S. Senators and one U.S. Congressman who have people on their staff that will help identify programs that might help you. You also have state and local elected officials who provide free services. Elected officials get re-elected by doing favors like this for people in their district. If they are able to help you, you will vote for them forever! You can find your elected official at www.congress.org
